Luchi - Aloor Bati Chochchori : The perfect Bengali breakfast

After a hectic week at office, when the weekend finally comes, you just don't feel like waking up. Do you? However you have to because you only get two days of being super productive and completing all the pending work that you have listed in your to do list.

What about food? If you ask me, I feel that I should pamper myself to the fullest when it comes to food specially on weekends. Indians are incomplete without deep fried foods. To add more exaggeration to it, I am a Bengali. This means that I don't care how my health deteriorates after having a rich meal. I just need to travel and eat all kinds of tasty and spicy food. Just for the wrong notion, Bengalis are also sweet lovers. So basically all things are not spicy. However we tend to add a bit of spice at the end be it in food or in PNPC ( Poro Ninda Poro Chorcha - gossips).

Coming back to breakfast, Bengalis have taste buds that need to be pampered. Well the dish that I am going to mention in this blog does that really well. Yes, I am referring to the famous " Luchi - Aloo Bati Chochchori". Luchi is basically similar to Poori, however there is no filling inside. It is plain flour kneaded with some seasoning and oil. Let's break "Bati Chochchori" in more meaningful words. "Bati" means a bowl and "Chochchori" means a mixture. So the potato mixed with some other ingredients get to cook in a bowl on its own while you are busy doing your other chores.

Let us begin with the recipe.

To make the Luchi (serves two):

Ingredients:

1. 2 cups of all purpose flour
2. 1/2 tea spoon of nigella seeds / kalonji / kalo jeere
3. 1/4 tea spoon of salt
4. 1/4 tea spoon of sugar
5. 1 tea spoon oil ( refined or white oil )

Method:

Set a pan which is deep, preferably a kadai. Put plenty of oil, the amount you generally use for deep frying. Don't think much, just add the oil. Trust me, you will need a good amount of it. Let the oil heat up well till you make the Luchi. The oil should be steaming hot by the time you put your first luchi in it.

Now let us come to the kneading. Mix the flour, kalonji, salt, sugar and oil thoroughly until it resembles bread crumb kind of a texture.

Now slowly add water at normal temperature and knead well until it all comes together in a dough. The dough should not be too soft and definitely not too hard as well. Cover it and keep it aside for 15 mins. Meanwhile you can cook the potato recipe.

When the dough has relaxed for a while, apply some oil in the rolling pin and the slate in which you will roll the luchi. Cut the dough in small pieces and roll them in between your hands to make small smooth balls.

Once this is done, take one ball and roll it into a round shape ( it does not have to be necessarily round, just make sure it has even dimension throughout ). Apply some oil if the rolling pin is sticking too much on the dough. The rolled out dough should be thin.

Once you are satisfied with it, gently place it in the deep oil contained in the kadai / pan. Give it 10 secs, then gently tap with a spatula on top of it till it rises and blows up. Flip it carefully before it turns red, fry for another 15 secs and then take the luchi at the side of the kadai to drain the oil. Once the oil has drained, keep it a paper to soak the excess oil. Your luchi is ready. Soft and witha crunchy crust.

To make Aloo Tarkari / Bati Chochchori :

Ingredients :

1. 2 large potatoes cut into small cubes
2. 1 tomato cut into small pieces
3. 2 slit green chillis
4. 1/4 tea spoon kalonji / kalo jeere
5. salt to taste
6. 2 tea spoon sugar
7. Pinch of haldi / turmeric

Method:

Add a spoon of white oil in pan. When the oil is hot, add the kalonji / kalo jeere to the oil. Stir it to evenly distribute the flavors in the oil. Now add all the ingredients and immerse them with plenty of water. Cover the lid of the pan and let it cook on medium heat for 15 mins.

After 15 mins, open the lid, and break the potatoes into smaller pieces with the help on the spatula. Just vertically hold the spatula and tap on the potatoes to break them. This will make the consistency of the curry thicker. Cover and cook for another 10 mins. And your dish is ready.

A perfect blend of sweet, spicy and tangy flavors. Yummy!!!

How to apply foundation with fingers

Sometimes our makeup seems to be incomplete even though we possess every element that can contribute to a flawless look. The perfect consistency of eyeliner, the perfect shade of lipstick, the gorgeous glimmering highlighter and eyebrows on "fleek". Did we forget the foundation? Or did we just ignore mentioning it cause we do not have the "Perfect" applicator to blend it?

Well, I say : "What is the use of a beauty blender or several makeup brushes when you are gifted with ten marvelous applicators?". Yes. I am talking about our fingers. Well let's just say we need eight of them cause the thumbs do not count when it comes to foundation application.

How to apply foundation with fingers
Believe it or not. I got this flawless foundation coverage with my fingers.

Don't believe? Then watch the video that I have linked in this blog.

Having that said, did you know that each of your finger serves a unique role in the foundation blending procedure?

Let's take the "Pinky finger" for example. Did you notice that this finger has the least surface area? You can be really precise with this finger.
Try using this finger to apply foundation or concealer under your eyebrow to carve it out. Works wonders!! 😉😊😊 You can also apply the foundation with this finger in the inner corners of your eye, around your nose where other fingers cannot reach.
On the other hand, the "Ring finger" can be used for concealing. This finger applies the least pressue and the least amount of force. This ensures the maximum coverage.
The middle finger has a wide surface area and you have a lot of control in it. So you can try blending the product with this finger or applying the foundation on your eyelids.

Always remember "When you dab, you look fab".

I use the dabbing motion to prevent streaky application and the swiping motion for even distribution of the product.

Its okay if you want to cluster in all the fingers and lightly rub your face. Just don't tug the skin.

Want a demonstration of the application? Check the video link below.

  • Comes in a sturdy glass bottle
  • Has no pump, dropper or a spatula
  • Has a dark copper colored cap that has the shade name and the suitable skin shade written on it.
I am in the shade Natural Marble and it is for "Fair to Wheatish Skin" as written on the cap.

Odor: Mild sweet fragrance

Shelf Life: 30 months

Claims:

  • Oil Free
  • With Vitamin E
  • Water Resistance
Consistency: Semi liquid consistency. Easily blendable.

Coverage: Medium to Light coverage. However you can build it up but then, it will look cakey.

Lasting: The foundation lasts for a maximum of 5 hours. For oily skin the lasting time is lesser.

Application

Since this foundation is liquid in consistency hence if you are applying it with your hands and dragging it, then that would be streaky and patchy.

The best way to apply this foundation is with a sponge and in dabbing motion.

This foundation gives a whitish hue to your skin but eventually it oxidizes and sits on your skin.

The product is drying, so it must be used over a moisturizer or a primer.

One thing that you will notice about this foundation is it will dry up very fast. So the application must be as fast as possible. It is advisable to use very less amount of the product at a time.

Finally to the Pros & Cons of the product.

Shades:

I am in the shade Marble. However there are three other shades available:

  • Coral - has a yellow undertone to it. It is suitable for fair to wheatish skin,
  • Shell - has a dusky undertone. It is suitable for wheatish skin.
  • Pearl - has a pink undertone. It is suitable for fair skin.
Finally to the pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Easily available
  • Cheaper than most foundation with a good quality
  • Easily blendable
  • Medium coverage gives a natural look
  • Travel friendly
Cons:

  • No pump which makes it unhygienic and not spill proof
  • Dries up to quickly. If not blended properly then it will leave streaky marks.
  • Comes in a glass bottle.
I surely would advise you to go for this product. This is an amazing foundation for the beginners. Appropriate for natural and simple party makeup.

The Tragedy of a Small Youtuber

Do you suffer from anxiety, depression, pressure to produce the best and the most helpful video on your YouTube channel? Do you feel broken when you see the subscriber count is not increasing at all? Do you wish to become big, or if not big, at least a mediocre You Tuber? Yes, I feel the same.

Welcome to the world of Beauty, Life & Care, the small YouTube channel having 203 subscribers as of now. I am Rimpi, a young girl trying to make big in this crowd of 7.5 billion ( well I am not counting any other species other than homo sapiens ). Today I will start my first post with " THE TRAGEDY OF A SMALL YOUTUBER".

Don't worry. I did not write the above phrase by accidentally pressing the Caps Lock key. I wrote it on purpose because I want to tell the world that I am a youtuber and it is tragic not to be successful in it.

That is me. Yes, I wrote " Subscribe " on purpose. You never miss a chance when it comes to marketing ❤☺☺ .

But who is responsible for this? Having uploaded about 45 videos as of now and getting stuck to 203 subscribers, do I deserve being under the category of extremely small youtuber? Do I deserve getting less than 10 views on video. I made a video on Contour Palette review and it has only 9 views till date. This is just an example. But who is to be blamed for this? Viewers? Subscribers ? Google? Thumbnail ? Below is the thumbnail used for this video.

Or myself?

The answer is myself. Did I think about the video content? Did I think whether I am delivering my best? Did I think whether I am if not better but at least at par with the other youtubers who give absolutely amazing quality? No. I just kept complaining.

I am not going to give up. I know that even this blog is not going to get popular but I am not going to let time win against me. I will keep trying, and I will keep posting videos with better content and quality each time.

Always remember, it is easy to give up but it is not easy to stand up and rise. The finishing line is not just for winners. The motive is to complete the race. Complete what you started. Focus on the finishing line and I am sure you will achieve even better.

This is my first post but the best is yet to come.
